Software Localization

Software Localization is about adapting all cultural content and technical issues to a specific audience in a given location. Increased global markets made all goods become more and more internationalized enforcing the need to provide information in a variety of languages. Especially this is true for the software markets, where the product itself consists of localizable information. Translation and customization of software involves a variety of specialists, localization engineers, programmers, translators, and quality assurance team and project managers. Software localization therefore does not only involve a smooth operation of each task but also the coordination of a localization team.

Software Localization is the utmost importance that all documentation and consumer interface text to be translated using the accurate technical lingo and nomenclature. Software documentation files (Windows Help format HLP, HTML Help format CHM, Web pages HTML or Adobe Acrobat PDF) contain much more translatable text in much longer text strings. These files are usually better handled by a translation memory (TM) software, which memorizes already used phrases, typically segmented by full-stops, and enable their recycling. TM software usually implements some fuzzy match to identify the degree of concordance between a new and old translated segment and allows their insertion into and editing in the authoring environment.

We have adopted the following procedure for localization process to enables us to provide a quality service-

  • Rebuilding the original interface
  • Building a Pseudo-translated application
  • Preparing the Translation Kit
  • Translating the User-Interface
  • Resizing the dialog boxes and the other U.I. Elements
  • Building & Testing the Translated applications
  • Delivering the translated application

Glossaries and Translation Memory

Consistent terminology usage throughout the document is a component of the corporate identity. In order to fulfill this purpose properly, terminology not only needs to be defined in a structured manner, but also needs to be made available throughout the company.

We use translation memory to ensure that paragraphs and sections of text which are repeated throughout your documents are re-used by our translators. Translation memory helps to increase quality and turnaround of your translations. It also helps with cost as previously translated text is charged at a reduced rate.

Computer Aided Translation (CAT) The TM tool promises that the translator need never translate the same sentence twice. More importantly, it guarantees that translations will be identical, when consistency is a requirement for the material, and yet enables a different translation when literary quality and creativity are prized.

Full match (100% match) a segment or sentence in a source document for which the translation memory tool has a perfect match in the target language.

Fuzzy match (partial match) a segment or sentence in a source document for which the translation memory tool can match some of the words in the target language.
